Stories:
A lot of people would say that this is a kitsune from the Japanese folklore, and it is. However, I am chinese, and to me the fox demon is actually called   Hu Li Jin (狐狸精). The word "demon" is a bit too strong of a word for the chinese word "jing," because in Chinese 'jing' actually means witty. According to the Japanese folklore, the more tail a fox has the wiser it is. In chinese folklore, the fox is more known to be full of trickery, and fool people into a complicated problems to do their biddings. In the stories that I've heard that was passed down from my family is that the fox sprite are both benevolent and malicious. She's almost like a succubus, except without the killing...most of the time. Most the movies I've seen with the fox sprites always tend to fall into a forbidden love with a human, and eventually gives up her power to be with them. ;-;

Another interest thing to know is 'Hu Li Jin' the phrase alone is consider an insult to a beautiful woman who takes a man from another woman to become adulterers. But I don't know, it kind of sounds like a compliment to me. Since it's like saying "you're so witty and beautiful, so you stole my man". >_>' My mother who told me some of the folklore said "the fox uses her beauty to persuade men to leave their wives, that is trickery and wickedness." I'm like, "only weak men gets persuaded by mere shallow looks." :P

Any ways, if you know any fox sprite stories, please leave a comment below! because I haven't heard any solid ones.

About the art:
This is quite a leap from my recent art work that are digital paintings. I think I got a bit weary from the consistent painting, and went back to challenge myself to do what I did with my Futuristic Sailor Moon art. I wanted to see if I can still maintain my line art skills. :) But don't worry, I'll be painting again soon. I've just been lacking some motivation....and original art work. haha. So this is another art to add to my originals. :D Follow me on Facebook to see more updates. <3

What about the Korean version of the kitsune? Instead of being witty like the original or
a trickster like the Chinese version, there are crazy blood-thirsty serial killers! And of
instead eat the human's soul, they eat real human flesh! Why?! Because they want to
be human just like them, and to be one. And there's no black and white territory (like the
chinese version with the evil/good spirits). They made there own decisions on whether they want to be human or not.

._. I read some Korean Kitsune stories....I feel like it's too dark for me. I'd rather stay with the chinese hulijin I grew up with rather than....scary nightmare stories. *sob* ;^;

i know how you feel about korean kitsune, but not all of them are that dark, like the korean drama
"my girlfriend is a nine tailed fox", after the man is a saved from the woman's fox bead (energy), he
was forced to be his girlfriend or else his soul with die.(instead of the human flesh). the reason why
the kitsune wants to have a boyfriend is not just she wants to be human, but she wants to experience
human feelings instead, like love.

Love how you portrayed this as a 狐狸精! That doesn't happen anywhere near often enough, especially given the incredibly rich background for these Chinese fox spirits. Great description too. If you want some solid stories, I believe there are some good 狐狸精 stories in Journey to the West/Xi You Ji 西游记, plus a huge plethora of similar and related animal spirit stories. 狐狸精 is definitely a derogatory term though, since calling a woman that isn't saying she's witty, but more like saying she's so superficially shallow that all she's good for is seducing weak-minded men and nothing else XD
